Mega-Trends Influencing the Workers Compensation Insurance Industry
This PowerPoint report by Steven Weisbart, vice president and chief economist of the Insurance Information Institute, presented at the 5th Annual Workers Compensation ExecuSummit in New York City, focuses on the state of the workers compensation line of insurance. The report is replete with charts showing combined ratios, profitability, claim frequency, etc. The report identifies and discusses six “mega-trends” that are likely to have a significant impact on workers compensation insurers, particularly over the long term. These are the favorable underlying frequency and severity trends, the possibly shrinking premium base, medical claim cost inflation, indemnity cost inflation, the aging of the population and of the workforce and the obesity epidemic. It concludes with a brief mention of other trends to be aware of that might become mega-trends in the future.

The following presentation is called "Mega-Trends Influencing the Workers Compensation Insurance Industry". It was presented by Dr. Steven N. Weisbart on February 5, 2008.
